Well I'm not sure where to start, it was a cold and rainy night. Not really but it sure is hot outside. I love New Mexico weather.

As I start my adventure with my first blog ever  I had to find and read 5 blogs but i was not sure where to start. So I googled Bloggs. Jo bloggs came and and fred Bloggs. I kept my research on blogs and found blogs on politics and preschooler bloggs and even some blogs that were very strange and apparently some people just have something to say. blogs can

I found the there are even bloggs by genre, you have media, devices and even revers blogs. A revers blog is composed by its users rather than a single blogger. It was actually fun learning about bloggs becase i always pictured bloggs were peoples lives were followed like a reality tv show.

The best blog i read was http://girlwpen.com/. It was “bridging feminist research with popular reality.” and I quote from the blog "A book should never be treated as a statement of some final Truth. Instead, a book is best put to use as moment of condensed insight that focuses and clarifies ongoing conversations" (first paragraph in the blog). It totally reminded me of what we are doing. If you have time check it out.

I never really thought of bloggs as something you can create knowledge from. Or a group of people getting together to share knowledge. What about a blogg for cancer patients who can talk about their stories. I bet you can find a blog on anything.

Blogs can build community of educators to teach students a topic or how one teacher has a great way to teach fractions from a fractal. We can have a community school of educators sharing their knowledge with other educators.

My only concern is that you cant trust everybody out there and you don’t know who is typing what. There are still risks when it comes to social networking and we must be diligent and aware.

I don’t really know what tones or voices a blogg uses but you sure can YELL!!!! if you need to. I guess the story and the words used can make you understand what somebody is feeling or trying to say.

I don’t like reading long blogs I like the shorter ones maybe even short quips and quotes are my favorite. I have yet to read anybody's blog yet but I'm sure looking forward to reading about their books that i have not read yet to see if I can learn something from it. I find this to be a very interesting idea and I hope its something I can maybe use in my class. Maybe start a class blogg were students can collaborate on mathematics and problems they are having. Sometimes its even easier to write what you are trying to ask and you may be less shy.

Anyway I don't know how to end a blog or even begin a blog so for now I will say goodbye and until tomorrow ill write again.

  1. I think many of us are in the same boat. I never wrote a blog before either. Just like you I had to google to find some blogs, and yes many of them were not that good like the one I am writing. Other blogs are amazing and very interesting . I also like the blogs that don't say much but go to the point. Like you I think they will be helpful especially for those students that don't talk much in class. Maybe writing will help for them to express what they care about. Great job by the way!

  2. I do not like the long blogs either. I think the most important things are ideas and creativity rather than the length of the blog. It is a good way to share our thinking with others and get benefit from each other knowledge.

  3. I like you idea of using blogs in the classroom. I also prefer the shorter blogs. I also find blogs to be boring sometimes. I think some people when they start blogging just start to rant and use a lot of run on sentences. Great start.

  4. I think I'm with everyone on this one. Before I started looking into blogging, I pictured someone in their basement ranting and raving about something that upset them. I am sure there are some that do this; however, at the same time there are good ones. Guess we will find out! Right?

  5. Steven, I think when you find a blog out there that actually seems interesting, you will want to read it, even follow it. I am the same way as you. I was not sure really where to start looking for blogs. I was taken back a couple of semesters ago when my professor told me to look at his blog. I was like, "really"? I realized I was the one who was out of whack. My professor's blog shed light on how important it is to have a digital space to write and share thoughts on any issue. Now, I have noticed that many scholarly people use blogs as their unrefereed areas to publish their work so they can be followed.

  6. I'm not much of an social internet person! I barley have a facebook just to keep in touch with friends and family that are no longer in New Mexico. I know facebook is mostly private, but i know its still not safe! I havent had snapchat for the longest time because to me it sounded so ridiculous to have. I thought if i want to send a picture ill just send it like a normal person haha. But for this class when i read we needed to make a blog i was like what in the world?! I, not to sound mean!, thought it was dumb we had to do this. But now i actually enjoy it and it gives me so many ideas to bring into my classroom and make things fun for my students! It will be fun!!

  7. I grew up in Utah and there is this thing (for real) called the Mormon Mommy Blog, it is a genre where they post pics of kids, of family outings, of activities, of food that they have cooked, and vacations. DIY Projects. It is an insane industry, I just think of how there are things out there that have yet to be created that will make our students read more and write more and this can be a good thing.

  9. Blogs are interesting .. I wonder what purpose they will have in the history of civilization. For instance, the printing press opened up a revolution in reading and independence. Does blogging need to have a bigger purpose than just talking with people from all over the world. No ... but somethings are beyond our control or we are often not aware until later.

  11. Hey Steven,

I was thinking of what you said about the book we're reading about asking questions is learning. I actually fiddled around with having students try to stump me at the beginning of class on the content. And if they stumped me I'd give them credit on there next test. It was pretty surprising how engaged the students become when they think they can beat the teacher.

  12. Beat the teacher. I think Don is onto something that might go a long way to stimulate engagement. This is another tool for my teacher bag.

  13. I think using blogging for classrooms are fun and helpful. I learned a lot from blogging. I have never had a chance to write and read about other people's ideas and thoughts. I think this is a great way of learning about reading and writing!

  14. My favorite blogs is tumbler, and thats primarily for visual appeal and satire for an audience. As far as blog blogs, I think they are written for the writer. A place to vent and let it out.
